Facts & Funnies

26.06.2001

*It's summer, the weather's great and people have asked us if Bauer is on a summer halt tourwise, well.... kinda yes, we basicly did all the venues in Holland for the Can't Stop Singing Tour, there are a couple of shows left but we're taking it a little bit easy playing live wise now.

* That doesn't mean we are not busy, The Ohio & Maine is going to be released as a single in August in a super dooper remixed version, Berend & Sonja worked on this baby last weekend while everybody was sunbathing. The remixed version is going to be more compact and to the point than the ol' album version.....obviously. Extra tracks on the single : an Arling & Cameron remix of the O & M and a remix of Dunce by Belgian collegues Das Pop. The O & M remix / single is also going to be released on white label vinyl 12". For the dancing shoes momma!

* Berend is also working on music for films & commercials right now, it could be a new Bauer CD but it's not, it's bits and pieces of music scraped together for cool backgrounds for tv 'n stuff, the CD is called "If it were to end right here, right now, would it be enough?" and is going to be duplicated a hundred times for agency's and filmmakers. · Unfortunately there are no plans for a US visit just now, only thing being worked on now is CMJ in NYC in Septenber, we keep you posted.

* People living in Amsterdam don't forget the Aimee Mann show Thursday in the Melkweg!

*In retrospect one could say from all the last couple of shows Bauer did DEVENTER was the highlight of the tour so far, we played the Burgerweeshuis two weeks ago with Coparck and we went through the roof, it was crowded, we sold CD's & T Shirts and there even was some groovy dancing with girls involved. A raving review in Deventer Dagblad by Eric Krebbers was our prize.

*Berend is working on alternative filmmusic for films, he's working on a new soundtrack for Coppola's The Conversation. Plan is to show this film with the new soundtrack at Plaza Futura in Eindhoven soon. Other films on the list for re-soundtracking are: The Thing (John Carpenter) & Mean Streets (Scorcese).

*Berend en Persijn Broerse (video wizard) just completed the new leader (music & image) for PARK 4D TV: a TV platform for video artists seen in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Berlin & New York. This leader is going to replace the old leader soon.

*We are not far away from CSS's USA release, a couple of more weeks and the record is going to hit the states. There are even plans to release On The Move, Can;t Stop Singing and a remix LP in a deluxe broadback vinyl package. Sign in HERE at Bauer plaza for this! Prices are still unknown.

*Also it's vacuum cleaner opening time! Sonja lost her Silver Harp.

*Everyone who ordered shirts? They're on their way!

*OK now, the Silver harp gala was pretty good, we were nervous and ready for an overdose of celebs. And that is exactly what we got, and more, a lot more. Sonja pretty much 'twistered' through the studio's with a camera to catch all the BN action, this roll of film is being developed as we speak and available for viewing on the site asap. We also had brief eyecontact with 'The Bauer Of All Bauers' Frans Bauer, but we were to chicken to start conversation though. The night itself was crazy, rehearsing, playing, interviews, friends, family, food, booze, the lot! We were pleasantly surprised Fay Lovsky walked on stage to deliver us our harps, we heard Robert Jan Stips was originally asked to do the honours but he had a nasty bike accident on the same day. Robert Jan, if you are reading this piece, Bauer hopes you are back in the land of the living. Cool thing was we got 4 harps, so not just for Sonja and Berend but also for Frank and Wim.

*Last week we did our first show with Robbert in Nijmegen and we were happy happy this turned out to be more than excellent, Robbert banged the drums with bravery, accuratesse and (most important) Bauerfeel. We were so glad and at ease after the show, it's pretty hard to follow Wim's footsteps you see and Robbert did that in style.

*Here are some FAQ's Bauer often gets asked before / during and after shows:

Q:In God's name, who plays what at Bauer shows? With all that sonic racket going on it's sometimes kind of hard to unravel! A: Sonja does all the basslines, chords and some of the soloing on her Nord Lead & Hohner Pianet. All the drums are live. For a couple of songs Robbert has a clicktrack running on his headphones, if we would'nt have that his playing would go totally out of sinc with the pre-recorded musicloops. Frank plays the guitar and starts and stops the musicloops under certain songs (Dolphins, Masterminds, Mother Of Two, Forrest Of Zero). He also hits individual buttons for signature samples like the trumpet in T, J & S, the dolphins in Dolphins or the orchestra in The Ohio & Maine. Berend plays the Fender Rhodes piano and plays solo's and Fx's on the Moog and Korg Synths and all his vocals are on tape. :-) Just kidding.

Q: Why not leave all that 70's equipment crap at home and tour with reliable always in tune digital equipment? We're oldfashioned peoples, Berend for instance still sleeps under blankets instead of more popular and easy to use eiderdowns.

Q: Why don't you guys play longer shows with Das Pop? A: Because we're kind of a support act.

Q: Why are you guys not more 'showey' like Das Pop? A: 'Cause we're Bauer.

*Dunce is # 7 in Arjen Grolleman's Outlaw41 Kink FM list! We practiced Dunce very hard last week and we're ready to perform it live now.

* The buttons are coming soon!

* Arling & Cameron are working on a remix of The Ohio & Maine, and it's going to be released on 12" vinyl.

*Vitaminic nl & vitaminic usa have a feature on Bauer.

*Bauer's busy! That's a fact to start with, another fact is that Bauer drummer Wim Kwakman will soon be Bauer's former drummer, the Tivoli in Utrecht show will be his last show with the band. His FINAL FINAL performance will be at the Silver Harp Award Show (talking about leaving with a bang!). Why? Wim Kwakman will be called Jim Kwakman real soon as he will give his total commitment to his first priority band JOHAN who will be releasing their album PERGOLA real soon. Are we sad? Sure we are, but we're also lucky we found a great new batterist to join Bauer's exciting live show performances, he's called Robbert Verbout and we think he's totally the man to walk in Wim's footsteps. Drummers are like spring sometimes aren't they? Once you get used to them they dissapear like a Robijntje in a soap commercial.

*Berend is working on spiffin' new music for the soon to be launched brand new PARK 4d TV signature/leader on Amsterdam Salto TV.

*Next week (Tuesday) is Bauer's performance at the silver harp award show, we're up 'till our necks in practice goo to give a riveting performance of 'The Ohio & Maine', we're buying us some new clothes and an hour seat in the local barbershop to look sssssuperschmart. Air date of this TV extravaganza will be in the first week of March, check your copy of TROS KOMPAS, equivalent or Bauerplaza for exact times.

*Another show is OOOOOON in the USA, New York to be exact, on the 19th of March at the Mercury Lounge, we're working on more dates (Maxwell's in Hoboken NJ).

*There will soon be Bauer buttons! *The Steven Malkmus album is SO good! Bauer fans will find consolation with this cd, it's on heavy rotation in the Bauer household, buy it or join the people who will NOT buy the new Steven Malkmus CD.

*What was playing yesterday evening at the Bauer residence turntable wise? 11. Some tracks of the Unbreakable soundtrack album. 10. Blackmail by 10cc from the Original Soundtrack album 9. Madonna : What It Feels Like For a Girl from the Music album. 4 The Dutch Rock & Pop Institute 2001 sampler CD with Bauer, Arling & Cameron, Seedling, Dyzack, Beef and others. It’s a good initiative but why is Bauer and Arling & Cameron on the Rock cd and not on the Pop one (is a question that could pop to mind)? 3. A song called Toledo from the Bacharach & Costello album. 2. Buddy Joe from The Golden Earring 1. Some Clifford Gilberto grooves.

*Best news of the year so far : Burt Bacharach, Robert Moog and Karl Heinz Stockhausen have been chosen this years gold dipped turtle neck sweaters to win the Prestigious International Polar Music Prize for 2001. A Swedish Prize that has been awarded since 1992 for exceptional and lifetime achievements, transcending musical genres and breaking down musical boundaries (there you go). The prize was founded in 1989 by Stig Anderson who played a key role in the enormous success of ABBA. Bacharach, Moog & Stockhausen, what a great list (instead of a great bandname)! 3 artist so f - a - r a - p - a - r - t but yet so near, the people here at Bauer plaza we’re chilled to the spine to see there is still some justice in the world afterall! *We were home (Amsterdam) at 5:30 in the morning.
